Programme: Sciarrino. Il suono e il tacere Sciarrino. Shadow of sound Pärt. Mein Weg Pärt. La Sidone Ligeti. Requiem
In Palermo in 1947 born Salvatore Sciarrino is one of the unconvential figure in European composers elite. Concerning his studies, Sciarrino did not come from the music schools, he is self-taught (taking some composition lessons). He found his way to the art first as a painter, later composer. In his music, we are led not only by his visionary vocation, but also by his methods of projecting, which aim to bring together shapes and geometries of time. To the listener, other couples of opposing concepts seem to interlace: inside and outside, empty and full, animate and inanimate, subject and object. And also: knowledge and ignorance, wisdom and madness, tradition and future. Sciarrino can be set in today’s philosophical and scientific thought. Sciarrino is actually living an especially productive moment, with prestigious world-wide performances. His discography amounts to almost 50 CDs, he has won several prizes. He has also devoted to theorical work and writing articles. He has been teaching in various conservatories: in Milan, Perugia and Florence. Ligeti’s Requiem - along with Atmosphères - reached a mass audience when an excerpt from the score was used on the soundtrack and the best-selling soundtrack recording of the Stanley Kubrick film 2001: A Space Odyssey.
